There are as many as one million travels, and tourism industry jobs are being lost worldwide each day amid the coronavirus pandemic, the world travel & tourism council (wttc) is calling in all the governments around the world to step up as a warning for the tourism sector.
Due to this outbreak, there are numerous travel restrictions which led the airlines to suspend flights and forced the cruise lines to cease all the operations temporarily. There are many of the occupations in the travel space, which also have hit hard by this outbreak, which includes travel advisors, hotel workers, drivers, restaurant servers, and many more.
WTTC CEO Gloria Guevara said in the statement on Friday that the priority of the governments is to keep people safe. Still, due to this global health crises, there are millions of people a day in the travel and tourism industry alone who are losing their jobs and facing potential ruin due to the disastrous impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
From waiters to taxi drivers, guides chefs and caterers, pilots to cleaners. All of them have dedicated their lives to the travel and tourism sector, and it’s heartbreaking that livelihoods of many of the people decimated.
She also added that some governments are very quick to respond with promises to help, still, the majority of the business does not have any idea how to access these potentially life-saving loans and tax breaks.
Today, they call on governments around the world to prevent the illness of the jobs throughout the travel and tourism sector and make crystal-clear vision on how businesses can access funds.
As many as 50 million jobs are at risk in the travel and tourism sector per the statement given by WTTC last week. The World travel and tourism council database also warned that this impact of an outbreak could result in the travel jobs cut as there will be 12-14% loss of jobs across the industry.
