The extension of the current closures of Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood has been announced by the Universal Parks & Resorts through at least 31st May 2020.
As per the latest guidance provided by government officials and health agencies, Universal plans to continue adjusting its operations. These steps are taken to monitor the status of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The extended closure period is applied in both Florida and California to Universal theme parks and City Walk retail promenades. Universal Orlando Resort Hotels are suspending its operations through 31st May.
Universal said that it is in contact with its team members with their updates and statuses. To sustain its business during the extended period, certain measures have taken place.
Universal is also tending to the well-being of its employees in this health crisis. The company said that their team members will be paid 100% of their usual pay through April 19. They will also conduct sessions like cooking class in Phuket.
At the beginning of April 20, the company will adjust work accordingly and most of its workforce will be paid by 80% of their usual pay rate. The plan also includes a small group of staff who will be working 100% of their duties and still, will be paid their usual pay rate.
Universal Park Orlando also said that, without the revenue coming, it must furlough its part-time hourly workers as of May 3. However, the total cost of any benefit plans will be fully covered by the company itself in which these workers may already be enrolled in.
According to Universal, when it becomes possible, the company plans to bring furloughed employees back on board. After returning, it will feel like 9 days in Patagonia.
