Thousands of dollars on transport and lodging and hours of waiting at the gate or station may soon be traveling phrases of the past – thanks to the design of the ‘Hyperloop Hotel.’
The Hyperloop Hotel was designed by a graduate architect at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Brandan Siebrecht. Siebrecht was 2017’s winner of the Radical Innovation Award. The award is given to designers who create visionary hotel designs for the future.
According to CNN “Siebrecht’s design features a series of transportable rooms, transported across the United States through reduced-pressure tubes — via the Hyperloop system.” The Hyperloop One system was originally created by Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Musk’s designed consisted of steel tube, built across the U.S., that would function as a super-fast intercontinental subway system.
However, Siebrecht has taken Musk’s design a step further. Rather than just “trains” traveling through these tubes, he created, portable, luxury rooms. This concept can revolutionize the travel industry. Travelers will no longer have to buy individual tickets for every journey nor book transportation and lodging separate.
According to the Independent, “It [the Hyperloop Hotel] calls for hotels in 13 locations — Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Denver, Sante Fe, Austin, Chicago, Nashville, Washington, DC, New York City, and Boston — which would all be connected by a ‘Hyperloop system.’” Siebrecht estimates each hotel would cost around $10 million to build. Although he has yet to define a nightly costs, Siebrecht’s plans show guests being able to travel between any of these cities without leaving their rooms (even traveling to multiple cities in one day).
Guest suites would be created out of re-purposed shipping containers. Each suite would feature an office, living room with TV, bedroom and bathroom.
The Hyperloop One system has yet to become fully functional, but the start-up hopes to be running by 2020. Siebrecht told CNN Travel “This concept is completely feasible as the Hyperloop is already being tested in my home state of Nevada. I am open to a partnership with Tesla and further development of my concept as an expansion or sub-brand of the Hyperloop One…I believe the Hyperloop One is the next big innovation in transportation in the United States and possibly the world.”
